» Papo1 - Hashimoto's Thyroiditis verses Grave’s Disease

Hi Elaine,

Thank you for your response. You contributions to this site are phenomenal and have helped me tremendously on understanding my condition.

You are correct that the odd ball result is my thyroglobulin level and it is noted as such on the lab report because of the thyroglobulin antibodies. I am not sure why this test was order and why my FT4 and FT3 are not being monitored along with my TSH as a means of managing my condition.

You also bring up a good point about me probably having TSH receptor antibodies, both stimulating and blocking antibodies that are keeping my TSH low. I should get tested for this to know exactly what the underlying cause of my condition is.

At first my doctor suggested using a beta blocker, but opted to use methimazole because I had heart surgery to correct a coartation of the aorta by synthetic patch angioplasty in 1982, and I have a systolic and diastolic murmur, along with a bicuspid aortic valve with mild to moderate regurgitation.

After reading your article on subclincal hyperthyroidism at http://www.suite101.com/lesson.cfm/19330... and another article in the American Academy of Family Physicians journal at http://www.aafp.org/afp/20020201/431.html ,I feel I need to suggest these tests on my next follow-up visit.

Best regards,
Luis
