Hi,
Be sure that they test both FT4 and FT3 levels when you have your labs done. In early hyperthyroidism it's not unusual for FT3 to rise before FT4 does. TED tends to be more manageable once you move into hyperthyroidism. Have a good day, Elaine

Elaine I go see another new doctor tomorrow. If I can't get anything with her I'm going to have to go to the ER or urgent care. I think maybe your right about the reason my doc doesn't want to deal with this. I'm just praying this new doc has a answer. Someone has got to figure this out. This has been about as bad as the reaction I had when they put me on prednisone. I've felt the worse this week! Maybe my levels aren't going to come up on their own. I just know mornings I have been waking up with what seems to be a fever and the worst time trying to see. I've noticed even laying down trying to watch tv I see double. I don't know what the heck this is and what my thyroid is doing but it sure can all go away like it came. I know wishful thinking! I've just had enough and I'm mad at my self for not being more thyroid aware. After 14yrs and no trouble I never knew all this could happen! Thanks Elaine you have been such a help! To bad the doctors don't take more time to listen and I don't mean all doctors their are good ones I just haven't lucked out yet on finding one! Shirl

Hi Shirl,
Be sure to mention the double vision (diplopia) to your doctor tomorrow. Diplopia can occur as a symptom of thyroid eye disease caused by congestion and crowding in your orbital cavity restricting the eye muscles. There are some really good doctors out there. I hope your new doctor is one of them. Best, Elaine

Well Elaine I liked this doctor I was there for three hours. She has me set up for complete labs including liver urine CBC Basic Metabolic Panel Lipid panel don't know what that is and ALT. She was shocked how my doc has handled all of this. Buttt- She's not to much on homeapathic medicine {not sure I spelled that right} Her man thing was I really should see an Endo. I feel like I'm just s lost as I was before I went. I told her about my eyes she asked me if they hurt and I told her yes also about The double vision at night when I'm laying down watching TV. She said something about the swelling and congestion told me the bulging won't go away and to use cold compress's for swelling. My bp was 138/88. She also said from the old labs me being hypo was from the ATD. And yes I could have went more hypo over the last few weeks. I'm still confused. So now I feel like I'm right back where I started from. I just don't know anymore. I can't get these labs done till Monday I guess I have to fast for ten hours before. So I guess I'll have to suffer through for the next few days. Shirl

Hi Shirl,
at least you'll have some baseline metabolic tests. In hypothyroidism the cholesterol and lipid levels are usually high although they'll come down when your thyroid levels are corrected.
Did she happen to order thyroid function tests? You'll eventually need to see an endo, but it would be helpful if this doctor were to evaluate and treat any thyroid abnormalities. TSH takes a while to change but by now your
FT4 and FT3 levels would be useful in telling if you're hypothyroid from the ATDs or have moved spontaneously into hypothyroidism. Best, Elaine

Hi Elanie she doesn't have any thyroid checked on this lab slip so I'm gonna call tomorrow and see if they will let me check the other boxes if not, I have the lab slip from the endo. I'll just have to take it to the hospital and see if I can get them done there after I go to this other lab. Shirl

Hi Shirl,
When you get your labs drawn, you can request that they send copies of the results to both doctors, and you can ask them to send you copies of the results as well. Take care, elaine

Hi,
I'll post my article on TPO Abs and infertility here on the autoimmune site this week. I'm really not very computer savvy but to my knowledge the best way to get notified of my new articles is by signing up for the RSS feeds. I've done more research on the use of IVIg in fertility treatments too and I'll be writing something on that too. Best, Elaine

» Feature Writer Elaine Moore - Autoimmune and Related Infertility

Hello,
The topic of infertility we've been discussing reminded me of an article on infertility treated with acupuncture, which a very conventional doctor mentioned recently. This in itself was interesting and I was surprised by stories of success with acupuncture I've been hearing from OB/GYN nurses recently.
This link is for one of the Denver clinics I've heard about, but my purpose in sharing this link isn't to promote this site and have people running across the country for treatment; I'm sharing it because of the excellent journal articles linked here. I'll incorporate some of this info in my future article on infertility but for those of you who have time to start researching this now, start reading and I'll be happen to help you however I can if any questions come up. www.insightacupuncture.com/htm/med_index.htm
