In response to low dose naltrexone posted by aviano:

Hi Avi,
I'm using LDN now and have been on it for about 7 weeks. My goal is to reduce my TSI level and start secreting TSH. Even though my FT4 and FT3 are normal and have been falling, I still haven't been secreting TSH. I posted on Mediboard yesterday with an update. Nicole Yvonne on the boards is also using it at her doctor's recommendation for TED. There are a few other people using it for thyroid disordes too. Best, Elaine

Hi Avi,
This suggests that your levels may be too high but dividing the dose could make a difference, especially considering that your dose isn't very high. Best, Elaine

» nurseheatherone - New Labs!

In response to New Labs! posted by nurseheatherone:
Hi Elaine, well I went to see this new Dr. and although she was good she said that naturopathic Dr that I see and my endo seem as though they are on the right track. She did draw more gluten sensitivity labs, parathyroid and adrenal functions and said that just looking at me she thought that I was probably hyper again. Basically because she is not covered by insurance she thought it may be cheaper to continue seeing the other Doc's and if I ever go hypo and do not feel better on treatment then she could probably help me. She did however recommend I continue to cut out dairy and start taking my supplements which I started and then I ended up in the ER last night. I took my atenolol12.5 mg, B-complex, Vit D 2000mg and selenium from a food source 200mg and about a half an hour later I felt like I was goign to pass out and ended up on the floor, shaking, my hands went numb, I was short of breath and my skin was hot pink from my head to my stomach. My pulse and BP went up and my temp was 99.4. needless to say my coworkers called 911 and I ended up in the ER with a benadryl drip and steroids. After the rash subsided they sent me home with 5 days worth of prednisone and benadryl. I am feeling better today still a little shaky and still anxious ( nothing new) but I have no idea what could have caused this reaction. besides that earlier in the day I was feeling really irritable and left a message for my Dr. to see if I should start the PTU, even though 2 weeks earlier I was technically euthyroid. I do not know if I am hyper again or am on my way back down but I am thinking that in order to function normally something has to be done, whether I need to be treated for anxiety , be back on ATD's or something more permanent so I do not keep going hypo to hyper over and over again, I think my body is really not liking me right now. I f/u with my internist on Monday so I guess we will go from there. All I know is that I will not be taking any supplements for a while. Part of me thinks that I may have been having a panic attack too, any insight would be apprecited.
Thanks again, Heather

In response to Internal Racing Feeling posted by daisyelaine:

Elaine:
I already do divide the dose into 3 separate (but not equal) parts during the day. This uncomfortable symptom ALSO shows up when I try to take any estrogen right now. There are three other women on boards like me that are trying to resolve this "feeling" and having a really tough time with BHRT. I'd like to help them as well.
Thanks,
Avi

Didn't you do an RAI or thyroidectomy? Are you thinking about TSH receptors in the body other than in the thyroid?
Thanks,

In response to Internal racing, also elevated ketones posted by daisyelaine:

Hello again Elaine:
Ketones were elevated during what I believe was a thyrotoxic episode (when the racing feeling first started). Bringing the dose down didn't help much with the racing then..
What else could this be? This has stumped doctors from N.C. to TN to Texas to California..Any ideas?
Avi

» nurseheatherone - New Labs!

In response to New Labs! posted by nurseheatherone:
Hi Elaine, I get my new labs back from the ER visit and they were all normal? My TSH is .9, my endo recommended that I get allergy testing to see what caused all of those symptoms I had. My question is, what is with all of the anxiety, I guess I am going to have to start taking something for it because it is sure not helping any. So I guess even though my antibodies are high my thyroid is still working. I am just not sure why I do not feel like myself, if I am euthyroid? I know I keep asking that but it I guess I should just be happy that my thyroid is still working and those TSI's are not having an affect on it at this time. I think sometimes when you feel bad you are just desperate for anything to work.
Thanks again, Heather

Hi Heather,
I suppose you had thyroid function tests drawn during your ER visit. Those results would help tell if you've moved into hyperT. I agree that you'd better hold off on the supplements until you figure out what's going on. How scary that must have been. Keep us posted. Best, Elaine

In response to Internal Racing Feeling posted by aviano:

Hi Avi,
It would probably help if your doctor ran a comprehensive metabolic panel alone with a complete endocrine panel including cortisol, estradiol, LH, FSH, prolactin, DHEA, thyroid levels and progesterone when symptoms occur. That way, you'd also be able to gauge the difference from your usual levels. Let us know if you have these tests. Best, Elaine

» Feature Writer Elaine Moore - low dose naltrexone

In response to low dose naltrexone posted by aviano:

Hi Avi,
Yes, I had RAI around 15 years ago, and my TSH receptor antibodies are still higher than they were before RAI. TSH receptor antibodies are known to react with TSH receptors on dermal cells, orbital cells, pituitary cells, skeletal muscle cells, and they're probably located on other cells as well. Many people on LDN notice an improvement in allergies, and this too would help with lowering TSH receptor antibody levels. Take care, Elaine
