In response to Hashimoto's Thyroiditis posted by Shell74:
Hi Michelle,
Autoimmune thyroid diseases have been linked to a number of environmental factors including both low and high dietary iodine, low selenium levels, aspartame in NutraSweet, estrogens, and stress.
Any food or seasonal allergies can also worsen your condition since exposure to these antigens increases thyroid antibody production.
Your dietary changes should benefit you. In most parts of the world, excess dietary iodine in fast/processed foods is linked to thyroid disease especially if iodine subsidization is used. You might consider avoiding processed foods too and adding a selenium supplement of 100-200 mcg daily along with a multi-vitamin free of iodine. Best, Elaine
