» ej54 - lupus weight loss

Hello, I am not new to this site but I have been a long time posting. I have lost weight within the last 6 months or so.Example(2pant sizes/2-3 shirt sizes). I want to know if I am loosing fatty tissue or what? I lost fat tissue in my feet about two years ago and have been walking on bone.Do you think that the weight loss will slow down?

Hi,
Much depends on your general health, especially your kidney function and also your diet and exercise habits. If you are losing weight more as a process of wasting and aren't building new muscle, you probably need to make some lifestyle changes.

Read the recommendations from the Life Extension Foundation for lupus that I mention earlier in this thread, and if your kidney function and liver function are ok, see about adding more protein to your diet.

You might also want to see if your insurance pays for a nutritional counselor. Your doctor could prescribe or recommend visiting a nutritionist or hospital dietitian to work with you on this.

I suspect you'll see improvement if you make some dietary changes, add some supplements that help your immune system heal and promote general health (like bioflavinoids to reduce oxidative stress), and incorporate a mild exercise program to maintain and tone muscle. Something like light yoga, tai chi or walking should benefit you. Best to you, Elaine
