» clover53 - Graves disease salicylate intolerance .

Hello
Salicylate is Aspirin found in fruit vegatable and cosmetics and medication. Two and half years ago my eyes and face swoll up . I was told I had a mild unknown allergy . I lost 2 stone and felt very ill . Finally afer two consultants and four GPs I did my own research . I know I was allergic to Asp irin so I went to a Harley St specialist who diagnosed my condition and my thyroid .I also Have Thyroid eye disease . I wonder if there is anyone else with this condition Regards
Terry

In response to Graves disease salicylate intolerance . posted by clover53:
Hi Terry,
Salicylate intolerance is common in asthma and it's occasionally seen in Graves' disease. People with aspirin intolerance often have other allergies including allergies to yellow food dyes.
Whenever you're exposed to substances you're allergic to your immune system is stimulated. This stimulation can sometimes trigger or worsen autoimmune conditions such as Graves' disease.
I have a file on this topic and will write an article on it within the next week.
Best, Elaine
Note: The article on Aspirin Sensitivity is now available.
