Can dogs die from autoimmune disease without the proper medicine? And, if so, how much is the average price for the medication?

Hi,
It depends on the autoimmune disease. My dogs have autoimmune hypothyroidism, and for this they are treated with soloxine, which is a form of thyroid replacement hormone. Depending on the dose needed, it's around $10/month and there are some online vet pharmacies that sell it at a reduced cost. Also, if you buy large quantities, like a 6 month supply, it's less expensive. For autoimmune hypothyroidism, their mortality isn't affected as long as they receive proper treatment. The circumstances can be different if your dog has a different autoimmune disorder. Hope this helps, Elaine
