Hi,
Stiff-man syndrome was first described by researchers at Mayo clinic in 1956.
In the 1980's a Yale researcher found stiff-man syndrome in a patient with diabetes and there was much excitement about the presence of anti-GAD antibodies in this patient. Later, it was determined that these antibodies are regularly seen in patients with diabetes. The association of stiff-man syndrome with diabetes and later with breast cancer and later still with neurological disorders was established in the 1980's.

Perhaps you are the first person with IDDM and SMS who was studied.
Here's a link about the researcher, Dr. Pietro de Camilli, and the patient. If you're the patient and want to tell us more about yourself please do. Link to Dr. Pietro' de Camilli'ss biography.
