» deb32 - Patient heal thyself

Hello Elaine...You are the second person to point out that my FT-4 is too low...the first was a doctor at ZRT labs from a blood spot test I decided to have done...I cannot believe I have been so blind over the last 3+ years...after constantly telling my endo that I just did not feel well his response has always been that it is not my thyroid...I knew it had to be but just did not know why...your response to me about receptors and the significance of my low FT-4 just clicked and I had a light bulb moment...which of your books would explain this in more detail???...Twice I have acatually tried to slowly back off of the Tapazole in the last year but both times at some point my heart starts to pound and my pulse jumps from around 60 to 95 at night...can these symptoms be transient symptoms that I read about in your response to another person???...I was also wondering what the difference is between a Naturopath, Osteopath and Homeopath??..which would be most effective in helping to point me in the right direction for possible vitamin and mineral deficiencies...I am so glad that I refused RAI three years ago, suggested by the same endo, because I started to break out in hives...after reducing the doseage the hives went away...now that you have opened my eyes to what the problem may have been all along, perhaps I can now begin to heal myself...Thank you so much for your input...Deborah

Hi Deborah,
You'd probably benefit most from my book, Graves' Disease, A Practical Guide. Many libraries carry it and you can find it at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and many other bookstores. It goes into the working of the gland in great detail.

As you mentioned, whenever you lower your ATD dose or manage to raise your thyroid hormone levels, even when they're still low or normal, you'll have transient symptoms of hyperthyroidism as your body adjusts to the change. In most cases, these symptoms will resolve within a week. This is also why people starting thyroid hormone feel a little hyper and better even when the dose of replacement hormone is too low. After a week or two, if the dose is too low, the effects stop and the hypo symptoms return.

I'm currently seeing a holistic oriented osteopath. And many osteopaths are holistically oriented. Their basic philosophy tends to follow a natural healing approach. An advantage is that osteopaths are medical doctors, doctors of osteopathy so they can order and interpret laboratory test results, prescribe meds, and even perform surgery if need be.
Naturopaths study natural medicine but they're not medical doctors. Often, insurance doesn't cover their treatments and they may not be able to order lab tests or prescribe prescription meds depending on where you live. Homeopathic specialists are usually naturopaths who focus on healing using homeopathic preparations. If I lived in Europe, where homeopathy is truly a science, I'd probably visit one.
An integrationist physician is a medical doctor who has also studied natural medical treatments and incorporates them into his practice. You can find integrationist physiciians in most large cities. Many osteopaths tend to be integrationists. I'm glad to hear you're feeling empowered and are ready to take charge in your healing plan. Best to you, Elaine
