Hi,
Pernicious anemia is one of the most common autoimmune disorders to occur in people with Graves' disease, especially those who have had RAI because of the immune system stimulation. Pernicious anemia is caused by autoantibodies that target cells and factors needed for B12 absorption. It's important to also have your folic acid level checked as well as tests for parietal cell and intrinsic factor antibodies to confirm the cause of your deficiency. In most cases, B12 and folic acid supplements are needed lifelong. Best, Elaine
