General MedicineMULTIPLE AUTOIMMUNE
»
Hi Kathy, Yes, you can have other multiple autoimmune diseases. The ones I listed are the ones that have been reported in the literature. But as you know, most physicians don't publish articles about their patients, and since these aren't reportable diseases there's no way to truly know how many people might have the same conditions you've mentioned. Your CCP suggest rheumatoid arthritis, but I'm not sure there are sufficient studies to tell if moderately high titers of CCP might show up in psoriatric arthritis. Psoriatic arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are both systemic disorders, which would cause a polyarthritis. You might want to read my article on psoriatic arthritis. Many of the immunosuppressants like methotrexate have side effects and for this reason many doctors won't use them as a preventive measure. But this would be an excellent time to try an anti-inflammation diet such as Dr. Hyman's Ultra Metabolism. You can also follow the suggestions I list in the articles on diet and supplements for lupus and related disorders. These sound like such simple measures, but they truly can make amazing changes that not only reduce the inflammatory autoimmune process but promote general health.
