Hi,
Thanks for sharing this. It sounds like it's a fairly common disorder in people with allergies. And allergic rhinitis is listed an an autoimmune related disorder.

The cod liver oil is rich in vitamin A, and many rashes and hives respond well to vitamin A. I suspect that's the link, and likely it's absorbed better dermally.

Both of your trips will help lots of people. Thanks again, Elaine

» gammanonnie - Tapazole itchy and welts

Hi,
I have Graves Disease. After three weeks on Tapazole, 10mg twice a day, I started itching and breaking out with welts. Has anyone else had this happen? Now the Dr. wants to do the RAI. I do not feel like this is a good idea. The thought of putting that in my body does not sit right with me. Any input you have will be greatly appreciated. It has been only one month and I still do not understand this disease too good.
Thanks so much
gammanonnie

I have the same itching hands and feet, my hands start first followed by my feet. It drove me mad until I started taking hay fever pills (antihistamines) 10 mg every two days and that stops it completely.

Hi there,

I had the same problem and my doctor swiched me to propylthiouracil. I have not had a problem since and my thyroid levels finally went so low that he was able to reduce the medication significantly (and I no longer need to take any beta blockers as well. Even with that though, I am worried about taking strong drugs regularly. I have been doing a lot of research and it seems that most of the people I have talked to have had more permanent sucess with "natural remedies" supplements, accupuncture, Tai Chi, and eleminating gluten from diet... Maybe you could try something like that or see a naturopathic doctor. That may seem an obvious option to you, but for me-knowing other people had success with that type of treatment has convinced me more than ever that I need to explore that option.

Good luck! That itchy Tapazole is no good...:(

Hi,
Welts and hives often occur if the Tap dose is too high. You might want to see about lowering your dose or switching to PTU. Vitamin A supplements often help reduce hives. Best, Elaine

» cas95osu - itchy hands & feet & red, irritated patches and streaks on skin

has anyone had this happen? i had intense itching of my hands and feet for about a day, which spread to other areas of my body. the itching came and went, and along with it i had redness. then, the itching sort of went away, and now i get these red streaks that appear on various parts of my body. looks kind of like bear claw marks or something. other parts just have a small area of redness. it's mildly painful. i've been tested for lupus and had other tests to see if i had an autoimmune disease, but nothing came up positive. could i have the early onset of lupus, such that it's not showing up yet? (i have had strange, intense joint pain in the past.) and no, i don't have the butterfly rash that indicates lupus. any information would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
Have you had any symptoms of viral infection? Cytomegalovirus, Human Parvovirus, and several other viruses can develop a rash accompanied by joint disease. Reiter's disease is another possibility. Either a rheumatologist or a dermatologist should be able to help you find a specific cause. You might want to read some of my articles on the various rheumatological disease and connective tissue disorders, including dermatomyositis, for more possibilities. Let us know if you get a definite diagnosis. Best, Elaine
