» 1sunlover - FT4 Level Low

I have been tested for thyroid problems. My TSH level came back at 2.81, but my FT4 came back low at .67. I've been told I don't have hypothyroidism. So why the low FT4?
Thanks for any info
Martha

In response to FT4 Level Low posted by 1sunlover:
Hi,
with most labs using a reference range of 0.8-1.8 for FT4, your FT4 shows hypothyroidism. The latest information on TSH ranges from the lab gurus indicates that levels higher than 2.5 are suggestive of hypothyroidism. Unfortunately, many labs are still using old ranges for TSH becasuse they follow the manufacturers' guidelines. The labs hope that the endos are keeping up with the new information but apparently that's not always the case. You might ask your doctor to re-evaluate the results. Best, Elaine
