im 54 & started getting chest pain in 1969.Also had pains in arms, sexual dysfuntion, trembling, head pain (not headace)and felt very hot.It came and went over the next decade. Got much worse if on a high fibre diet and when in America.Went to doctor only mentioned the chest pain- eventually diagnosed with Barlows syndrome (systollic click).OKish for next decade except suffered from excessive salivation. Then my dad died-became very ill immediately with nausea, weight loss, diarrhea.Had health shop allergy test(they dont test gluten) very allergic to dairy and onions+fairly allergic to many other foods.Next decade sensitive to light ,big weight gain +40%,feeling cold, huge neck.Recently went to America lots of bacon-ill again started supplementing cal/mag and now sense my blood pressure is elevated and have abdominal pain.Do you think my probs are thyroid related although my eyes dont bulge-im of nervous disposition and too embarrased at the doctors to tell him anything.

Hi,
Only about 40 percent of people with Graves' disease and about 10 percent of people with hypothyroidism have significant eye symptoms.

Many of the symptoms you mention sound thyroid related. And because we started iodine subsidization in American early on, it's not unusual to notice more symptoms here. The natural course of Graves' disease is for periods of symptoms to alternate with periods of remission, especially during the early years. And about 20 percent of people with Graves' disease eventually move into hypothyroidism. It's not unusual to have hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism (more than once) at different times in one's lifetime.

Thyroid disorders are fairly easy to diagnose if the right blood tests are run. Because cardiac problems go hand in hand with thyroid problems it wouldn't be out of line if you asked to have thyroid function and thyroid antibody tests. Best, Elaine
